Decorating with blue mason jars and flowers
Let’s do some decorating with blue mason jars and flowers. And lets add a touch of coastal, beachy, nautical style too. Perfect summer decor.
G’day sweet bloggy friends. How about some foofing with flowers today? And lets add some blue mason jar decorating in with that. And I feel that a little beachy, nautical, coastal style decorating is still allowed.
Because you see, I am now the proud owner of blue mason jars!
Yes, dear, I have joined the crowd.
Now in your part of the world that might not be such a big thing, but over here in the little low land it is. I have had a yearning, a craving, a need, a must-have, a for crying out loud give me some!, wish for blue mason jars for ages now. They are nowhere to be found in these parts. I have seen them looking good all over blogland, probably on your blog too. And I wanted them, I wanted them bad. My life just didn’t feel complete if I didn’t get me some mason jars.
And now that deep void in my life has been filled. I traveled back from the States with quite a little collection of jars in my suitcase. Good thing that I had traveled over there with only a few outfits, so I had some room left in my bag.
And now I have new blue mason jars (from that special heritage collection) to play with.
And some vintage mason jars to foof around with and to do a little decorating with blue mason jars and flowers.
And even one very special big, huge mason jar that was a gift from sweet, lovely Gina. She heard me cry out for mason jars all over the internet and promised to bring me one to our meeting (I’ll tell you all about meeting Gina and other blog friends soon).
That big one is very special. Not only is it big and beautiful, it is a number 13 too. I didn’t even know these mason jars were numbered, but they are and apparently the number 13’s are very rare. These jars were used to make moonshine, and the moonshiners broke the number 13’s because they supposedly would bring bad luck. For a moonshine making man, bad luck probably meant being caught, and having to hand over the moonshine (love that word, can you tell).
This particular number 13 was dug up by Gina from her grandmothers barn. And that makes it oh so very special to me. Not only is it a beautiful blue mason jar, it is a special gift too. A constant reminder of meeting Gina and giving her a big hug after all of those years of blogging friendship. Doesn’t get any better than that.
And to know that it came from a barn! Oh, how I would love to be able to say that I found something in a barn. To have a barn, to be in a barn. To own a barn. I love barns. They are so romantic, and rustic and full of secrets and great finds. I think I love barns almost as much as …….
Okay, I digress. I was talking about my mason jars. And how much I love them. And about that sweet little Indian summer that we were having this week with tropical temps and all. And that that made me feel totally justified in doing one last beachy, nautical, coastal decoration.
Yeah, I was talking about that.
I think you are going to see a lot of these blue mason jars on the blog here. I apologize beforehand. But now that these beauties are mine, I am sure going to use them and do some serieus decorating with my blue mason jars!

Oh, I understand that jealousy. Suffered from it for years. Of course Etsy is always a good possibility.

I grew up with my Mom canning peas, corn, green beans, pickled beets, pickles, applesauce, pears, peaches, apricots, bing cherries and Swedish meatballs using my Swedish great grandmas recipe (my Mom’s ancestry is Norwegian but she was a good wife!) we had canning jars galore but never blue ones. I was too busy playing in our horsebarn after all the workhorses were gone and rarely, playing in the big red barn. But no. We didnt do moonshine up where i lived. It was my Papa’s and Grandma’s farm first and goodness! They did not drink at all!! We moved to California and Mom had left her canning jars behind but our great aunt gave us her even older canning jars. None blue. My first and only blue little jar with the lid came from my parents probably during 1976–bicentennial–where everything old was being reproduced!! I know I can’t eat them, but once I got on the floor and dug deep in my folks’ cupboards. I know its bad but I have a jar of bing cherries and one of apricots…I look at them and remember all the work those jars represent. And how good it tasted. And how much my kids loved eating a dish before bed and drinking the juice. We called it “sauce” and even the old china came with “sauce dishes” to serve it in. I suppose I ought to put out a jar with some zinnias….a clear one. The only gal in America who has canning jars from the 30’s to 50’s and none are blue?!!
Ps. Your look fabulous. I see a shimmery silver blue Christmas idea floating around. Oh! I’ve never been to Hobby Lobby either. They say our old Mervyns store is going to be one but we shall see!!! We just now have a chalk paint store!!! So I would say I’m learning from YOU!!!

Thanks! I am glad I got to play with a little summery/beachy decoration before Fall took over. Now that the rain is here and the skies are blue I feel a different kind of decoration is in order.

So glad you have some blue jars now! I have these jars as well as some “old ones”. Love them! I cannot wait to see what else you do with them. Now that spring is here, we’ve been enjoying some backyard picnics. Love the look (and taste) of cranberry juice mixed with Sprite and a lime wedge put in a blue mason jar with a fun paper straw! Just looks so fun.
A few weeks ago I bought some of the purple mason jars, I’m just not as fond of the purple as I am the blue.
