A rough-hewn tabletop with sleek acrylic base, a tree-inspired metal chandelier, a bar fashioned from 19th century beams—these are just a few of Myers Park High graduate Josh Utsey’s creations. Handcrafting custom tables, chairs, and light fixtures out of his South End studio, Utsey uses wood collected from the North Carolina mountains—cherry, walnut, oak, locust—or locally sourced metals to design and execute lasting statement pieces. joshutsey.com

Scott Miller and his father, Carl, collect wood from all over the state—from old houses in Dilworth and Myers Park to barn wood from Appalachia—and bring it back to their shop in Harrisburg. There, they repurpose it into custom tables and display cases for local and national shops. 2ndstorywood.com
Worley’s Lighting
With a turn-of-the-century, rustic feel, all of the light fixtures sold on this local Etsy site are assembled by hand by Shelli and Seth Worley. Among the things they create in their Pineville workshop and Fort Mill home: Edison bulbs fastened to antique walnut bookends and industrial-cage table lamps.
